Biography

Prior to joining the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation, Dr. Battistini has had a nine year career as Assistant Professor and health research scientist at the Université Laval, Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie, Hôpital Laval. In addition, Dr. Battistini has spent the past 10 years in various senior positions with a number of startups, as well as emerging and established biopharmaceutical, nutraceutical and medical device companies.

Dr. Battistini graduated from the Université de Sherbrooke with a Bachelor degree in Cell Physiology, a Master degree in Biology and a Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology. He then pursued post-doctoral training in London, UK, at the University of London St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College – The William Harvey Research Institute under the guidance of Sir John R. Vane, Nobel Laureate. He then undertook a second post-doc at UBC (Vancouver) Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and St.Paul’s Hospital, followed by a third post-doc at the Université de Sherbrooke – Department of Medicine prior to joining Université Laval as a research scholar.

Dr. Battistini has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and patents; over 350 local, national and international presentations; organized local and international conferences; and trained and mentored over 20 young scientists.  Since joining the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation more than five years’ ago, he has implemented the first strategic plan and re-engineer of three core programs focusing on strategic initiatives with partners (federal, not for profit and private sector), recruitment and new infrastructures. The result has been significant in investment, health research and innovation in New Brunswick. Dr Battistini is also engaged at the national level as national co-chair of the National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organization and the Funders’ Forum on health research.
